Entering the Imfolozi wilderness area for the first time I was amazed by the total silence that struck me. Everything has its place and that goes also for us. Silence is an important principle of the program. Because I believe that in the silence we learn to listen to our own voices. Opening up our mind, our heart and our will, conquering our voices of judgment, cynicism and fear. Experience the effect of really being present in the moment with clarity and focus. Effortless manifestation. That experience I want to share with all participants, to truly gain new insights on how to follow their own path.
Natural Leadership to me is listening to the inner voices and connecting from the heart with others and the roads ahead. In essence: to feel able to lead yourself. The trails help me to become silent and to see and to listen to what is there. Even if it surprises me, fear, weakness, joy or strength, it’s always okay. Also being silent in nature brings out the playful child in me. It helps me to feel light and joyful, it helps me to be creative, to envision the future, see meanings and opportunities and to enjoy all the simple things in life. Being together on these journeys and sharing our thoughts and emotions help me to feel the next level of understanding myself and the connection with others.
To me this is also how Natural Leadership contributes to business or professional lives; leading others by envisioning together the roads ahead, embracing what is there and connecting from the heart: Natural Impact.
Rodney was born and grew up a few hundred metres away from the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve. This ensured that even as a young boy, Rodney grew up with an interest in nature and wildlife. Rodney has been guiding trails with the Wilderness Leadership School since 2007 and one of the school’s most experienced guides, spending over 2000 hours a year in the wilderness. His brilliant sense of humour and intimate knowledge of the iMfolozi area, wildlife and Zulu culture make him a sought after guide in the area.
Beyond guiding, Rodney also runs a small non-profit in his community focused on youth development and helping people from his village benefit from nature
