To introduce myself, let me just quote from my diary last october 2018, on my FNL trail in Rwanda. For me, this is what a trail is about:
“Love for nature, for what has been here for thousands of years, the paths that have been trodden by animals only, for millenia, the rythm of day and night, sun up in the Savanne, animals just finding their way during the day, sleep, eat, be eaten, a continuous spiral of movement in silence, in trust.
To realize how life is about rythm: about doing and taking what is neccessary only, not about doing and taking as much as I can.
To leave as little imprint behind as we possibly can: although we had a fantastic experience, no one will ever notice we were actually there. We left no trace, no trace at all.
To listen, to learn, to care for all but leave them be, to fool around and make fun.
What did we do besides carrying our backpacks through the heat? So much trouble to get going, so much money, so many miles to cross, such preparation. What for? To come to the core of things, to connect to what lies deep beneath, on the bottom of our souls. To connect whith what really drives us, in good and bad. For that, we need silence to rest the mind, physical labour to focus, nature to inspire, and our travel companions to share our truths.
For me the essence is: I do not want to be in the lead of my life, I want Life to lead me.
So if i would just shut up and listen, that would be a great start.”
